The change is … changing

What a week!

In the last few days we’ve celebrated one kid getting hired for their first job, one obtaining her driver’s permit, and one moving up to a new (more challenging) division on their swim team. A week of “firsts” for these young people! Additionally, my husband had an opportunity to travel for work for the first time in our married life, which meant I needed to figure out how to singularly provide care and transportation of all five kids.

In less exciting news, we got our first call home from a teacher - informing us that one kid was making poor choices at school. Oh…and our oldest died her hair purple (after experiencing her first break up).

Sound like a lot?

After navigating the change of blending new families—introducing new parents, moving-in together, figuring out new schedules or finances, etc.—it’s easy to think the hard work is behind you! And yet, with each passing day our families experience change in maturity, social circles, employment … and even hair color!

This seems like the right time to remind us all that change, while uncomfortable, yields growth!

Because we don’t have total control over our environment, we’re forced to flex and adapt in ways we may not have thought possible. What a blessing to know I’m not the same Marrah I was 20 years ago! Changes in my life have forced me to evolve into the woman, wife and step/mom I am today!

When it starts to feel like I no longer recognize my life, I’m reminded of the importance of revisiting my values; *courage, family, integrity and faith, to name a few. These personal commitments provide a map by which I can navigate the changes in my life (expected or not!). What a comfort to know I have an established code of conduct ready to deploy when the next tidal wave of change comes a callin’!

Anticipating a wave of change in your own life? Or simply feeling the weight of change that is surely lurking behind the corner? Have hope!! Whatever the change, you can be assured a future of growth and maturity for you and your family.
